Natural tung oil is a multi-purpose impregnation. It is used both indoors and outdoors. But among other things, it gives a pleasant decorative effect and tactile sensations after drying. That is why it is most often used for processing wooden furniture in the interior, decorative wood products and bath utensils.
If you treat the outer wooden surface or countertop with tung oil, you may notice that it fades much more slowly under the sun than, for example, under oil wax, however, to guarantee an increase in the protective effect against fading, it is still better to tint the outer surfaces and products.
Tung oil is 100% natural product. It is extracted from the nuts (seeds) of the tung tree. Its smell, in liquid form, although pronounced, but, subjectively, not many consider it unpleasant. After drying a large wooden surface (lining, panels, block house), it disappears within a few days.
Tung oil is slightly thicker than linseed oil. Therefore, the first primer layer is usually recommended to be diluted with white spirit so that it penetrates deeper into the fibers of the wooden structure. Drying on a wooden surface after covering 2-3 layers (one layer dries on average 24-32 hours depending on temperature and ambient humidity), it polymerizes and hardens. For wood, this improves abrasion resistance and the surface becomes wear-resistant. After complete drying, after 1-2 weeks, it becomes suitable for washing. wood treated with tung oil does not get wet, water rolls off the surface without penetrating inside for a very, very, very ... long time.
Tung oil is harmless, it is often covered with children's furniture, kitchen utensils in contact with food, shelves and fences in steam rooms, etc. However, it should be warned that in rare cases it can cause an allergic reaction in people sensitive to this type of enzymes ... So be careful while working with it. Otherwise, it is an excellent universal wood protectant, 100% eco-friendly and natural.
